During the week of June 7th, 44 dogs and 67 cats were euthanized in the Lumpkin County Animal Shelter.  You may hear tales of a Parvo epidemic.  But the Parvo was limited to young puppies.  There may be allegations of UTI which is nothing more than a urinary tract infection and very unlikely to be contagious.  Irrespective of the excuses, a mass execution took place to reduce the shelter population. The Lumpkin County Animal Shelter is a beautiful and warm haven for stray, abandoned and abused animals. Our shelter strives to make our visitors experience at the shelter as welcoming and pleasant as it is for the animals who are staying with us until they find a home. The shelter is clean and our animals are healthy and happy! The Lumpkin County Animal Shelter is owned and managed by Lumpkin County. The county shelter is additionally supported and assisted by PAWS Humane Society, a non- profit 501(c3) organization. Volunteers and fundraisers are more important than ever.  Pets are being relinquished because the owners have lost their jobs and in some cases even their homes.  The county shelter must make do with less because of reductions in the county budget.  PAWS will need to make up the difference to save the lives of healthy animals.  We need your help.

Anyone looking for a pet can find information and see pictures of pets available for adoption from the Lumpkin County Animal Shelter on this website.  Click on the dog picture.
